Support
Note: FrontPage Extensions are not included
on our less expensive accounts but can be added if you wish.
However, in most cases the extensions are not required so
we don't include them in order to save our clients the expense
of buying something they may not need. There are some features
in FrontPage that do require FrontPage Extensions. If you
avoid these, you can still create a very nice web site with
FrontPage. For information on uploading your site created
with FrontPage without FrontPage Extensions, please click
here.
Installing FrontPage Extensions
If you use the features within FrontPage then
you will first need to enable/install FrontPage Extensions. It's
easy.
Note: Installing FrontPage extensions for
your site does not install Microsoft FrontPage on your computer.
FrontPage is a separate software application which you will
need to purchase and install on your computer.
Note: Turning on Microsoft FrontPage extensions
disables utilities in the Control Panel. When you enable FrontPage
extensions, you are telling the server that FrontPage will
perform certain functions rather than the Control Panel Options.
These options include:
- Site Creation Tool
- Redirect URL
- Mime Types
- Protect Directories. FrontPage uses the same .htaccess file
as the Protect Directories tool provided on some accounts. Once
you have installed the extensions, you should not use the Protect
Directories tool.
How To Install Microsoft FrontPage Extensions:
From the Control Panel, select the MS FrontPage icon. The Microsoft
FrontPage Extension Manager displays. To install the FrontPage Extensions,
select the Install FrontPage button. A message appears, indicating
the extensions will be installed within approximately ten minutes.
How To Verify that FrontPage Extensions
are Installed:
From the Control Panel, select the MS FrontPage icon. The Microsoft
FrontPage Extension Manager displays. To verify the FrontPage Extensions
installation, select the Verify button. A message displays, indicating
the extensions have been installed.
How To Remove Microsoft FrontPage Extensions:
From the Control Panel, select the MS FrontPage icon. The
Microsoft FrontPage Extension Manager displays. To
remove the FrontPage Extensions, select the Remove FrontPage
Extensions button. A message appears indicating the extensions
will be removed within approximately ten minutes.
Publishing your web site
This section will guide you step-by-step through
configuring Microsoft FrontPage to exchange files between your computer
and your web site. The steps shown here are for FP2000, but older
versions work in the same manner.
In order to proceed, you'll need to have three
things: Microsoft FrontPage installed; a connection to the Internet
via your Internet service provider; and you'll need to have
installed the FrontPage extensions in your account Control Panel.
We suggest you start by creating a simple
test page to upload.
Before you can publish an html file to your web site with FrontPage, you must either have a page already created,
or create a page. To create a page with FrontPage, follow these
simple steps:
1. With FrontPage open, choose File --> New
.
2. Type in "FrontPage test page"
3. From the menu bar, choose File --> Save
As.
4. Name the test file "index.html"
Once you have the file saved to your hard
drive, you are ready to publish the file.
Publish Your Web Page.
1. From the menu bar, choose File --> Publish
Web...
You'll get a dialog box like this:
2. Click on the Options button
You will see a dialog box like this:
3. In box below Specify the location to publish
your site to: enter the full URL for your site.
4. If this is the first time you are publishing your site, select
Publish all pages...
5. Select Include subwebs .
You should now have a dialog box that looks like
this:
Be sure to use your real domain name instead of
'yourdomainname.com' !
6. Click the Publish button.
You should now see a dialog box like this one:
7. Enter your username and password.
If you have entered all the details correctly,
FrontPage 2000 will then publish your site. You will see a dialog
box like this one when it has finished:
8. Click Done .
FrontPage and passwords
Loading and changing passwords in FrontPage requires some
added steps. To set or change passwords, you'll need to log
on to your current web in order for the security menu
choice to be active.
To change the user and password for FrontPage
login:
Go to the FrontPage menu:
1. Click: Tools->Permissions
Tools->Security in FP2000
2. Add: Name, Password
3. Click "Administer, author and browse.."
radio button
4. Click "Apply" and then "Ok".
To change the password:
Click: Tools->Change Password
Tools->Security->Change Password in FP2000
Type in old password, then new.
FrontPage Support
Our technical support staff is here to make sure
that the FrontPage extensions on the server are working properly.
If you suspect that there is a problem or get an error please contact
support. We will also try to point you to resources that will help
you get information on any problems that you may be experiencing
with FrontPage. However, our primary responsibility is restricted
to the server software and not your FrontPage software.

Features not supported on our servers
Some FrontPage Extension options will not function
properly because of a lack of support from Microsoft.
- Active Server Pages
- ODBC and MS SQL Database connections (Access, FoxPro)
- ActiveX
- VBScript
There are good alternatives to each of these
features within our services, with the exception of databases, which
are offered only with the One World plan upgrades.
